Who We Are

We are Mercia where we aim to provide our employees with varied and rewarding employment, helping customers bring their dreams and visions of their future home to life.

We are a busy retail showroom selling kitchens, bathrooms and tiles, based on the southern outskirts of Wells. We sell a wide range of tiles and provide a home survey, design and installation service for kitchens and bathrooms, coordinating the trades to complete the project; we can also supply the kitchens and bathrooms items on a supply only basis too.

Role Activities

  • Key retail sales person, aiding customers with product advice and installation recommendations for wall and floor coverings, particularly tiles.

  • Kitchen and Bathroom project lead taker, engaging customers on the shop floor to confidently introduce them to our products and brands and book a consultation with a member of the team

  • Raising Purchase Orders to fulfil customer and stock requirements.

  • Receiving supplier deliveries and allocating products to customer orders and stock.

  • Maintaining stock records and flagging up when key products require reordering.

  • Delivering customer orders.

  • Actively maintain, clean and develop the kitchen, bathroom and tile displays in accordance with the business requirements.

 

Person profile

The successful applicant will have:

  • At least 2 years of retail experience, preferably within the buildings or DIY industry.

  • A friendly and outgoing nature and be able to read the customer in front of you so that you can adjust your engagement and delivery method(s) to make the customer feel welcome and valued.

  • A good command of English, both spoken and written.

  • Accurate numeracy skills, particularly being able to understand and calculate areas and relate them to quantities.

  • A positive work ethic and integrity.

  • A full driving licence with no convictions.

You will be:

  • Well organised, have excellent time management and present yourself smartly.

  • Willing to work as part of a small team and take your fair share of the workload. 

  • Will show a keenness to learn and develop your skills.

  • Physically fit; you must be able to cope with regular heavy lifting.

 

Working Hours

We have one full time position available; to include at least every other Saturday.

The showroom is open 09.00-17.00, Monday to Friday and 09.00-13.00, Saturday.

 

No Sunday working, ever. Currently, no Bank Holiday weekend working, although this is always under review. 25 days holiday and 8 Bank Holiday days, plus 4 days paid sick leave; pro rata.

 

Training

Product and skills training will be provided as necessary.
